Birth Seasonality: A Worldwide Rhythm
Unfortunately, there remains a complete lack of research focused on birth seasonality in developing countries, or even developed countries in the Southern Hemisphere. I was recently granted access to birth records from more than 65 developing countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. I am utilizing these data to identify patterns of birth seasonality and combine them with my research on the Northern Hemisphere to publish a global study on human birth seasonality.
Unlike the US, and other developed countries in the Northern Hemisphere, approximately 1/3 of developing countries examined here exhibit a biannual (twice a year) birth pulses. There are a few other exciting findings, but this manuscript is in prep, and specific results/tables/figures will be uploaded once the manuscript is submitted.
